Genuine 1906 full-page halftone print entitled “The Day of Rest” from an issue of The Illustrated London News. The Artist, Frederic William Burton (1816–1900) was a prominent Irish painter and art expert who contributed illustrations to periodicals of the era. This particular artwork captures his signature high degree of finish and detail, influenced by Pre-Raphaelite circles and his extensive travels in Europe. Framed with antique solid oak with custom mount behind glass.

Frederic William Burton (1816–1900) Trained in Dublin, he was a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy and later became the Director of the National Gallery in London (1874–1894). Burton famously lost the full use of one of his arms after being thrown from a horse in a severe childhood accident. Despite this, he became one of the most celebrated Victorian-era painters.
