Serge Daeffler (1940–2022) was a French-born Australian landscape painter whose artistic career spanned more than five decades. Born in Paris during World War II, he emigrated to Australia in 1955 and began painting in the early 1970s. He studied under Lance McNeil before refining his approach with Gerard Mutsaers, whose emphasis on observing natural light became a defining influence on Daeffler’s work. After retiring from his business career in 2009, he devoted himself to painting full-time, producing a substantial body of landscapes, florals, and still lifes inspired by the Australian bush. A respected artist and teacher, Daeffler was particularly known for his plein air practice and his ability to capture the atmosphere and light of Australia’s natural environment.
