She trained at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School and in Adelaide before spending extended periods in Europe, where she absorbed developments in modern European art and Japanese printmaking. After settling in Sydney in 1920, Preston became particularly celebrated for her forceful still lifes, native-flower subjects and woodcuts, using simplified forms, strong outlines and decorative pattern to promote a distinctly modern Australian visual language. She played an important role in the revival of Australian woodblock printing and was also a prolific writer and commentator on art. Her work is extensively represented in Australia’s major public collections.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Woodberry's Vintage Art","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50462648828161,"sku":null,"price":895.0,"currency_code":"AUD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0763\/7840\/7169\/files\/7383F6A7-A682-4692-9401-C9B274669430.png?v=1791019509","url":"https:\/\/woodberrys-art.myshopify.com\/products\/j-790","provider":"Woodberry's Vintage Art","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
