"Heinrich Rudolf Schinz(1777-1861) was a Swiss zoologist and author of monographs on various groups of animals and on Swiss fauna. Born 30 March 1777 in Zurich, Switzerland, where he died on 8 March 1861. Completed studies in medicine in Wurzburg and Jena before returning to Zurich where he taught medicine before being appointed professor of natural history in 1833. As a zoologist and taxidermist he was especially known for his research and writing in the fields of mammalogy and ornithology."
