Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber (1739 – 1810) was a prominent German naturalist, physician, and academic whose work advanced the fields of botany and zoology during the late Enlightenment era. Born in Weißensee, Thuringia, he studied medicine, natural sciences, and theology at the University of Halle starting in 1758 before traveling to Uppsala, Sweden, to train intensively in botany under Carl Linnaeus, earning his medical degree (MD) in 1760. As one of Linnaeus's last direct pupils and correspondents, Schreber played a key role in disseminating and expanding Linnaean taxonomy across Europe.
