About the Artist

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish-born painter, sculptor, ceramicist and printmaker, widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. A co-founder of Cubism, Picasso continually reinvented his artistic language, moving between abstraction, expressive portraiture and sculptural experimentation. In the late 1940s, he developed a passionate interest in ceramics while working with the renowned Madoura pottery workshop in Vallauris, southern France. His ceramic creations, often featuring stylised faces, animals and mythological imagery, transformed everyday vessels into imaginative works of art. Today, Picasso’s extraordinary legacy continues to shape modern art and design.
