Albert Namatjira (1902–1959) was a trailblazing Western Arrernte artist from Central Australia. Born at the Hermannsburg Mission in the Northern Territory, he pioneered contemporary Indigenous Australian art by blending Western watercolor techniques with ancestral stories. His vibrant, iconic landscapes of the MacDonnell Ranges brought him national and international fame.
