1911 Maggie Salcedo block print, girl with kite, framed antique art
Maggie Salcedo (1890–1959), Fairies and Flowers, 1911 — an original period colour hand pressed Chromoxylograph on paper created for Frances Ward’s Fairies and Flowers, published by William Heinemann, London, and signed “Maggie” within the image, presented under glass with a wide neutral mount and gilt timber frame.
A wonderfully lyrical Edwardian image, with Salcedo’s delicate linework, restrained autumnal palette and windblown figure capturing the playful innocence and gentle movement characteristic of early twentieth-century children’s illustration.
