John Webber (1751–1793) was a Swiss-born English artist famous for his role as the official artist on Captain James Cook’s third voyage to the Pacific (1776–1780). His detailed sketches and paintings, often produced as engravings in the 1780s and 1790s, provided Europeans with influential, firsthand images of landscapes, people, and culture in the South Seas.
